It's probably a different patch. And if you're talking about Tuesday, it's the WotLK patch.. it's just getting updates and what not.
References :
You still have to pay, but here is a website that if you're willing to put a little time into you won't ever have to pay for your own WoW membership. You can get 60 day membership cards in about 30 days only having to spend about 10 minutes per day. There's many other rewards you can get if you put in extra effort.

There are multiple patches to download. Around 2 gigabytes worth at least.

The most recently released was patch 3.0.2, and that was activated yesterday, so if that wasnt downloaded, you will have to download that.

You will need all the patches up to 3.0.2 before you can play World of Warcraft.

To find out about patches, you can find more info on them at http://www.worldofwarcraft.com
References :
Everything but the integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD is fine. Intel integrated video and gaming do not work well. As others said, you may be able to play on low video settings but you'll notice major frame rate drops in any busy areas of the game (cities, raids, area of effect spells (blizzard, rain of fire, etc...), area damage effects (flame walls, explosions, etc...)). You really should look for a laptop with a dedicated gaming quality video card. Asus makes models that start around $1200 but you can find other lesser known brands starting in the $900 range.
References :
as the people have posted above me, we are getting into the phases of pre-WOTLK, its going to be very laggy and very buggy for the next few weeks do to stress with the game servers.

Blizzard has announced that trial account will be off for quite a while, so be patient, go buy the game imo, the game is worth paying for.

Yes.
In extremely busy environments (raids, towns) you will probably have a massive drop in frame rates due to the weak Graphics Card. I recommend you try to find one with a dedicated video card. ATI 3600+ or Nvidia 9600+ with at least 512MB DDR memory.
References :
WoW is transitioning to the LK so you will need to download the patch to keep up with what they change in the game. you will have to redo all your talent point, ect. It isn't the same patch it is a different one.
References :
You have to pay a monthly fee to play wow on all the blizzard servers.
You can download the game for free online and download private servers to play on for free, just the real blizzard servers are better and will likely never be shut down.

If I were you, I would download the starter edition and play the game first and see if you even like it or not.
If you like it and would like to play it past level 20 and unlock more stuff, you will then have to update the starter edition to paid edition.

The starter edition can be found on the blizzard entertainment site.

I would like to add, if for some reason you plan to buy the games in store, do know that blizzard entertainment does have a big discount on the game patches right now due to a christmas special.
References :
Played the starter edition and got bored of it only after playing it a few days.

I had the same problem, but the patch is actually downloading either while you play, or after you exit the game, or both. You can click on the "options" icon on the opening screen to see how it's set up and make changes. This is a huge patch, and took me about 8 hours to download with DSL. you can check the progress by minimizing the game while playing and mousing over the blizzard downloader icon in the lower right hand corner of your screen, in the tray. It will show you the percentage that's been downloaded so far.
Hope this helps!! :-)
